Journeyman Tool & Die Maker
$32-$45/hr + $100K+ Earning Potential & Regular Overtime & 401(k) Match
Benton Harbor, MI (Commutable from: Stevensville, St. Joseph, Niles, Baroda, Bridgman, Sawyer and South Bend)
Are you experienced in tool and die making and looking for a role with plenty of variety, real ownership of your work, and the opportunity to earn $100K+ a year?
You'll be joining an established specialist tooling business working on large, heavy-tonnage dies and molds used in die casting and plastic injection molding. The focus is on repairs, refurbishment and troubleshooting rather than repetitive production, so you'll be tackling different problems and projects throughout the week.
You'll be diagnosing tooling problems, working out what's gone wrong, and carrying out the repairs, modifications and rebuilds needed to get everything back into service. Some jobs need urgent attention to get a customer's operation back up and running, while others involve larger projects that can run for months. You'll work independently, collaborate with engineers, and take ownership of jobs from start to finish.
There's also the opportunity to take on a lead role, help develop less experienced toolmakers and apprentices, and build your skills across different areas of the shop. With regular overtime, typically 45-50 hours per week, and overtime paid after 40 hours, there's plenty of earning potential for someone willing to put the hours in.
The Role:
- Repair, refurbish, dismantle and rebuild large die-cast dies and plastic injection molds, troubleshooting faults through to completion.
- Read blueprints and engineering drawings, operate conversational CNC machines, and carry out programming where required.
- Take ownership of jobs from initial assessment through to completion, working with engineers and supporting other toolmakers on the shop floor.
- Work a typical 45-50-hour week, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday overtime available. (Anything over 40 hours is paid at time a and half).
The Person:
- Holds a Journeyman's license in tool and die making, with at least four years of relevant experience.
- Has strong hands-on experience in tooling repair, fitting, assembly, disassembly and troubleshooting.
- Can interpret blueprints, work independently, and operate conversational CNC equipment, with some programming knowledge.
- Takes ownership of their work and is comfortable helping guide other toolmakers or apprentices when needed.
