Lecturer - Carpentry and Joinery
Newcastle-under-Lyme, site based
£40 to £45 per hour
Monday to Thursday, temporary contract until April (with potential extension)
Are you an experienced Carpenter or Joiner looking for a contract teaching role with clear hours, a defined schedule, and a supportive FE environment?
Do you want to deliver high-quality training to apprentices from Level 1 to Level 3, focusing on skills development and learner progress without being overloaded with administrative or departmental responsibilities?
This further education college is well regarded for its technical apprenticeship programmes. The department is organised and provides a structured environment, allowing contract lecturers to focus on delivery, assessment, and learner support.
This contract role is designed to cover teaching while the college continues operational planning. You will coach, mentor, assess, and support apprentices across Levels 1 to 3, helping them develop practical skills, confidence, and professional standards. Schemes of work and teaching resources are already in place to support your delivery.
The Role
Deliver practical and theory Carpentry and Joinery sessions to apprentices at Level 1, 2, and 3
Use existing lesson plans and schemes of work aligned to awarding body standards
Assess learner work and provide clear, constructive feedback
Maintain a safe and inclusive workshop environment
Track learner progress and contribute to reviews and achievement records
The Person
NVQ Level 3 (or higher) in Carpentry and Joinery
Practical industry experience in carpentry and joinery
Previous teaching, training, or coaching experience in FE or apprenticeship settings
Confident supporting learners of varying abilities and skill levels
Strong organisation, communication, and classroom/workshop management skills
Committed to safeguarding, health and safety, and professional standards
