Job description
Pharma / Biotech Subject Matter Expert
$150,000 - $400,000 + Equity + Flexible PTO
Manhattan, NYC
Are you a senior pharma or biotech expert who can look at a clinical dataset and immediately understand what actually matters, and want to help teach machines to reason the same way?
This is a rare opportunity to join a well-backed, highly technical startup applying machine learning to trading in regard to drug development, regulatory outcomes, and biotech decision-making.
The team is building systems that learn from how experienced professionals actually evaluate clinical trials, regulatory signals, and drug data. The goal isn't to replace that expertise, but rather to codify it - taking the intuition built over 15-20 years and turning it into something scalable and auditable.
You'll serve as the domain expert for the ML and research teams, translating how experienced pharma and biotech professionals interpret trial results, endpoints, approval pathways, and commercial signals into modellable frameworks. This is not a trading role. Instead, you'll focus on sense-making: explaining what data means, why it matters, and how real-world decisions are made.
This would be an excellent fit for someone looking for high ownership, to work closely with researchers and founders, and to benefit from excellent equity upside.
The Role
- Partner with ML and research teams to systematize how drug and trial data is evaluated.
- Break down clinical, regulatory, statistical, or commercial judgment into structured signals and decision frameworks.
- Guide model design by explaining how experts assess trial quality, endpoints, approval risk, and upside.
- Validate model behavior against real-world pharma, biotech, and investor decision-making.
- Define evaluation criteria grounded in clinical relevance, regulatory reality, and commercial impact.
The Person
- 7+ years of experience in pharma or biotech across clinical development, regulatory affairs, biostatistics, translational science, or biotech investing.
- Background at leading pharma, biotech, or CROs (e.g. Pfizer, Roche, Novartis, Regeneron, IQVIA, Moderna, etc.).
- Deep intuition for interpreting clinical data and understanding downstream regulatory and commercial implications.
- Excited by the challenge of turning human expertise into scalable intelligence.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with ML researchers and engineers in a fast-moving environment.
